Springer Spaniels are intelligent dogs who catch on to new things easily. The Springer is the right choice for either a city or country home because they are so eager to please, loyal and like people. Playful and energetic, the Springer Spaniel can bring its owner many hours of amusement. Springers are excellent all around dogs. Good training can bring excellent results in many fields, including agility, tracking, retrieving, obedience, hunting, and field trials. They are great with children and are an excellent pick for families. Children should be supervised with all breeds of dogs.

Owners will be satisfied with a Springer because they are so friendly and eager to please. There are people who use the sweet temperament of a Golden Retriever to describe the Springer’s personality. They are happy to just be with their family even if that means just lying around the house. Human contact helps them to adjust and adapt to different levels of activity. Springer Spaniels are incredibly affectionate! We know this from experience. As breeders, we have raised a lot of puppies and can absolutely testify to this fact.

A full grown English Springer Spaniel weighs 35-55 pounds and is an excellent sporting dog. Springers can remain in good health most of their lives which can span 10 to 14 years. Field bred Spingers have short hair and are generally more active than the show bred types. Both field bred and show bred Springer Spaniels have docked tails. The difference is, the field bred dogs tail is docked longer. The reason for this is that the tail is an important hunting tool It acts as an alert signal for the hunter.

English Springer Spaniels generally have two different variations of colored fur which are either black and white or liver and white. The tri-color coloration of black, liver, and white, is quite rare and will usually occur when the sire and dam are both tri-color. They are also known for having a white blaze on their faces usually down the middle.

If you need a good hunting dog, with plenty of energy, who is ready to sniff out some ‘game’, English Springer Spaniels are the breed for you. Springers love the water and would enjoy spending the entire day outside with their owners as they are not especially affected by weather. Because they are an old breed, they have been a favorite canine for many years. These dogs are the oldest but best hunting breed around.

Hopefully, you can understand the reasons that we believe Springers are a good option for a variety of lifestyles. We have seen how easily these adoring animals are accepted as a part of any family.
